Adina Ioana Vălean is European Commissioner for Transport since December 2019. She previously was Romanian MEP for the Partidul Naţional Liberal, part of the European People’s Party (EPP) between 2007 and 2019. Vălean was elected chairwoman of the European Parliament’s committee for industry research and energy in July 2019. In her previous term, she served as chairwoman of the European Parliament’s committee for environment, public health and food safety. From 2014 to 2017, she was vice president of the Parliament overseeing information and communications technology. Vălean is also a member of the delegation for relations with the United States of America. Previously, she was a member of the Romanian Parliament for the Romanian National Liberal Party from 2004 to 2006. Vălean was a social activist before entering politics and holds a BA in Mathematics and a MA in European integration and security studies.
