Carlos is Founder and CEO of Volotea, since leading its capital raise in 2009. Volotea connects small and medium-sized European cities, with direct flights at very competitive prices. Since its start of operations in 2012, the airline has carried 50 million passengers across Europe.

Volotea is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, and has operational bases in 19 European cities, in France, Italy, Spain, Greece and Germany. It currently flies to more than 100 cities in 16 countries. Volotea is a 100% Airbus airline, with its 41 aircraft fleet composed of A319s and A320s.

In 2023, the airline will employ more than 1,750 people across Europe, expects to carry approx. 11M passengers, and to have revenue of €700 million, approximately 56% higher than the level of 2019, when it had revenue of 441 million euros.

Before launching Volotea, Carlos was also the founder of Vueling Airlines (today one of the largest low-cost airlines in Europe, part of IAG group) where he served as CEO from 2002 to late 2007, leading the company to a successful flotation in the stock market in 2006. He stepped down from the Board when a merger with a rival was completed on summer 2009.

Carlos started his professional career in the family-run company Antonio Muñoz y Cía. (AMC), in citrus and juices. In 1998 he moved to San Francisco, CA, to work as a consultant for McKinsey&Co, until 2000.

Carlos holds a degree in Business Administration from Madrid’s ICADE (University of Comillas, 1992) majoring in Finance, and an MBA (1998) from the Harvard Business School. He is married to Joy, since 1997, and they have four children, splitting life between Barcelona and San Francisco.
